Week 4 Gospel Ship
The song I chose was Gospel Ship by the Carter Family. It starts out with a nice short strums of the guitar. The lead singer comes in shortly after. I like when the back up singers come in I think they really add to his voice. I love the music to this song I think it has a nice little tune to it. My favorite part is a little over two minutes it just the music with no singing I just like to hear the cords. From what I take from the lyrics is that he is dying and that he is going to heaven. It talks about taking the ship too high above the sky and bidding the world good bye. This song is for sure not something I want to get up and dance to but it is nice to listen to. It is clearly a gospel song so I guess the target audience would like church songs and gospel music. I liked this song and thought it was a good listen.
I really like this song choice and the image that you decided to add to your post. Seeing a picture of the band helps to visualize everything that you are saying about the song. This song is probably not something that I would listen to outside of the context of this class because of the religious feel but I do agree that it's a very nice sounding song. The singing is very beautiful but I do agree that the best part of the song may be where there is strictly instruments.
ReplyDeleteThis song sounds like the theme could be similar to the classic song 'Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat' I love that the song you picked has guitar. Stumming is one of my favorite sounds. In my opinion, guitar carries such a peaceful sound and it's my favorite instrument. It's so interesting to see the boom in gospel music at this time. You can also start to see the combination of country music and gospel music.
ReplyDeleteI also really enjoy the instrumental of this song! It was absolutely my favorite part. I for sure would only listen to this song in class, it's just really not what I am personally into, but the instrumental is a very interesting listen. The lyrics themselves actually made me pretty sad despite the tint of religious optimism.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard this song I really enjoyed it. I love the instruments that they chose to use throughout the song. This is really one of those songs that is just nice to sit and listen. I really like your insight on Gospel Worship.
