WEEK 9 Superstition
The song this week is Superstition by Stevie Wonder. I really like this song I definitely didn't know it before we listened to it in class. This one was really interesting and caught my attention. I loved the video we watched in class where it showed him recording the song. I found it interesting that he played so many instruments while recording Superstition. Using the technique of overdubbing is so cool in a song like this. I love the first of this song it is probably my favorite part! When it starts out with the drums and then the clavinet comes in and adds that funky tone/vibe to the song. I had no idea what a clavinet was before I listened to this song it is like a keyboard, but with more going on! I love what that instrument does for this song; it really adds funky groove thats different than most song I listen to. After doing some reading on the song and Stevie I learned he often used it. I had to look up what this song was genre wise and it said soul which I can definitely see. I think the beat of this song is clear and strong which make it easy to keep with. It makes me bop my head for sure! I loved this song and think is has been one of the my favorites to learn about and just super interesting song as well as performer.
Hello Kezli! I agree with you thats "Superstition" is a great song that represents its genre, soul, quite well, attracting and keeping the attention of listeners. Overdubbing used for the recording of this song seems to me to be a lot complicated, but it definitely makes the song more interesing. The instrument that you mentioned, clavinet, is indeed a great feature of this song, I think it makes it special and distinguishable.
